The Jewish community has unique needs and is therefore faced with many
challenges in obtaining quality mental health care. Since cultural issues
may affect treatment, it is important for a caregiver to be knowledgeable
and sensitive to a patient's cultural needs.
Our mission is to provide access to the resources
available, and to partner individuals with the best mental health professional
appropriate to their specific need. This is accomplished through Relief's
flagship program - its' Referral Service- as well as other services. We
maintain an extensive database of qualified mental health providers with
comprehensive information regarding, range of specialty, location, therapeutic
technique, and insurance participation. This service has proven to be
a valuable resource for the Jewish Community, and thousands of callers
have successfully found the help they need.
Relief promotes awareness of mental health issues
amongst the community as well. Relief publishes and distributes informational
brochures about a number of conditions including depression and anxiety,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and eating disorders.
These useful guides help patients and families recognize symptoms and
offer encouragement in seeking help.
In addition, seminars are conducted for school principals,
teachers, clergy and others to ensure that those in the religious and
educational systems recognize problems and are equipped to take appropriate
measures. Community education plays the important role of removing the
stigma often associated with mental illness.
Relief has initiated a special Eating Disorder Helpline
for individuals suffering from eating disorders, where trained therapists
effectively encourage callers who do suffer from this syndrome to seek
appropriate treatment.
In its relatively short existence, Relief has earned
a reputation of excellence and has gained the acclaim of mental heath
professionals, clergy, and laymen alike. Encouraged by our success in
America, we have recently opened a branch in Israel at the request of
community leaders there.
RELIEF SERVICES:
Referrals - Relief
has established a formidable nationwide network of specialists and maintains
close contact with leading mental health professionals. Referral counselors
assess the needs of each individual and recommend an appropriate provider
based on location, specialty, and therapeutic technique.
Follow up - Relief
follows up with patients and their families to assure the efficacy of
their therapy. We determine that clients are comfortable with the treatment,
and that the family as a whole is smoothly progressing towards stability.
Information - Relief
provides informative guides on a variety of mental illnesses. The pamphlets
help familiarize families with symptoms, treatment options and instructions
on how to deal with emergency situations. Also addressed are issues that
uniquely affect families in the Jewish community.
Support - Connecting
with others experiencing similar crises is therapeutic. Yet, the preference
for anonymity usually precludes this option. Relief Resources has established
an e-mail support group, where members communicate about a host of issues,
ranging from treatments and side effects, to the challenges of marriage
and childbearing.
Education - Relief
presents informative seminars on mental disorders for educators, religious
leaders and the general public. The focus of these classes is to increase
awareness of mental illness and its symptoms. This will help to prevent
crisis situations, as warning signs are detected at an early stage.
Liaison - Relief assumes
the additional role of liaison between the mental health provider, the
patient, family members and clergy. This facilitates greater communication
and helps avoid misunderstandings based on cultural gaps.
Relief addresses a wide range of
disorders, including:
Depression
Anxiety Disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Bipolar Disorder
Eating Disorders |
Schizophrenia
ADD/ADHD
